29 September 2006 - WIsH Competition 2006

On July 13th the Health Minister Dr Brian Gibbons joined staff of the NHS at the Wales Millennium Centre to celebrate the innovative work underway in the health service by attending the Welsh Innovations in Healthcare awards ceremony.

The aim of the WIsH competition was to encourage innovation and to identify the most innovative ways of improving healthcare in Wales. There were over 70 entries to the competition, with 39 being short listed and 5 winners selected. Entries of a very high standard came from hospitals and Trusts across Wales of all sizes. In addition the WIsH team awarded a special prize.

Dr Gibbons said: “Creating a strong innovation culture in the NHS and in Wales as a whole is vital if we are going to achieve world-class health services. Innovation is about applying new ideas in every area and level of an organisation to make it more successful. It’s about thinking and acting differently – it’s about generating ideas and putting them into action. By developing new and innovative ways of working we can start to change the way services are delivered for the benefit of patients.”
