Welsh Innovations in Healthcare
WIsH, Welsh Innovations in Healthcare, is the innovation management service for the NHS in Wales.
WIsH has been established by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide resources for the identification and exploitation of innovations and their associated intellectual property (IP) within the NHS.
WIsH aims to bring healthcare benefits to patients and improvements to the wider NHS through the use of intellectual property rights and through ensuring that innovative ideas and examples of best practice are evaluated and disseminated throughout NHS Wales.
WIsH also facilitates linking and partnership working between NHS Trusts, academia and industry across Wales.
WIsH’s principal activities include:
- Increasing the understanding and importance of innovation in the NHS.
- Providing training on innovation management and exploitation methods.
- Identifying existing and new NHS Innovations and any associated IP.
- Assessing the practical and/or commercial potential of NHS innovations.
- Providing specialised support to the process of innovations management and development of innovations.
- Protecting innovations with significant commercial potential and their associated IP;
- Providing specialised advice and support to bring about licensing of IP and spin-out company formation.
